BIO

Mr. John Groe is the CEO, Accessibility Consultant at Accessible Daily Living (ADL), and President of DriveLab Inc. (DLI). He is responsible for all areas related to Accessibility and Business Development for ADL and DLI. Accessible Daily Living has been awarded the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce Accessibility Award in 2016, The Top Choice Award for Accessibility in the City of Vaughan, and the City of Vaughan Accessibility Champion Award – Small Business in 2021. Mr. Groe has spent most of his career working hands-on in both the medical/rehabilitation and Insurance industries. He has extensive knowledge of rehabilitation having worked in one of Canada’s top Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospitals for more than a decade. Mr. Groe is a founding and current council member for Home Modifications Canada (HMC). HMC is an affiliate to the Canadian Home Builders Association, educating, advocating, and creating awareness for accessibility, aging in place, and residential modifications. Mr. Groe was appointed liaison to the Ontario Brain Injury Association with regard to the Canadian Access and Inclusion Project (CAIP). The goal of the CAIP is to improve the participation and integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of Canadian society in cooperation with the federal government and the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough. He was appointed board member of the Brain Injury Association of York Region (BIAYR) for the period June 2014 through to September 2019. Mr. Groe is certified as a Professional Consultant on Aging through CPCA Canada along with Executive Certification in Home Modification (ECHMP) Senior Living (SLEC) through the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of South California. Mr. Groe has recently been appointed, International Faculty for the USC – Leonard Davis, creating the first online continuing education program (ECHMP) for residential accessibility in Canada. Mr. Groe has most recently achieved certification through Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments (GAATES) relative to the Accessibility Standard for the Design of Public Spaces (DOPS) and Certified Living in Place Professional (CLIPP). Mr. Groe is currently in the process of being certified as a Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) and awaiting candidacy for International Certification of Accessibility Consultants – Built Environment (ICAC-BE) through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals recognized by the United Nations. In 2021, Mr. Groe initiated the ‘Treat Accessibly” campaign in Caledon, Ontario bringing awareness to accessible Trick or Treating for all. On October 31, 2021, The Village of Bolton, in Caledon became the second city in Ontario to close a municipal road and implement accessible measures for trick or treating. At this time, Mr. Groe is an International Faculty Member with the University of Southern California’s Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and currently sits as Vice-Chair to the Accessibility Advisory Committee for the Town of Caledon (October 2018 – October 2022), with a recent Province of Ontario public appointment as a board member with the Retirements Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA).
