The Drawbacks to Aging in Place

Aging and growing old is something that we all do. However, where we grow old differs from person to person. Some people downsize their home to a condo, some move to a warmer climate, and others look for community facilities that will cater to their health and wellbeing. We are privileged to live in North America where we can choose where we grow old, how much it will cost, and what expectation of care we have from caregivers and family members nearby. I have researched countless articles citing the pros and cons of aging in place. But my most impactful learning came from caring for my Grandparents in their home and in a facility with professional care and support. I am speaking with experience on the subject and where aging in place at home fails our senior citizens. Retirement homes with additional buildings for progressive care is ideal. Local community support gives a sense of neighborhood that many seniors crave as they age. Seniors flourish when transitioned to a facility that will accept them with open arms and care for their unique health needs.
